Holmium oxide glass filters are solid-state reference materials for checking the wavelength accuracy of UV-Vis spectrophotometers. Their spectrum shows 11 well-defined peaks between 240 nm and 640 nm.
Approximate peak positions are 242, 279, 288, 334, 361, 419, 446, 454, 460, 537 and 638 nm. PCI Analytics says the standard is accepted for this purpose by ASTM, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (Australia) and the British Pharmacopoeia.
