Overview

Product overview

Baird-Parker Agar Base is used for the selective isolation of staphylococci, and the granulated listing names Staphylococcus aureus. Lithium chloride, glycine and sodium pyruvate in the base support selective growth, and the finished medium is completed with an egg-yolk tellurite enrichment added after sterilisation. The GF1024F listing references ISO 6888.

Both versions use 58.0 g of base per litre. The powder listing dissolves it in purified water, autoclaves at 121 °C for 15 minutes, cools to 45-50 °C and adds 5 mL of Egg-Yolk Tellurite Enrichment per 100 mL of base. The granulated listing dissolves it in 950 mL of distilled water, dispenses 95 mL per flask, melts the agar before use and adds 5 mL of pre-warmed Tellurite Egg Yolk Enrichment Solution per 95 mL of base.

Final pH is 7.2 ± 0.2 for GF1024F and 7.0 ± 0.2 for KL1024F; the two listings differ slightly in how the nitrogen sources are named. The product is not for clinical use.
