Overview

Product overview

CommaSil® CN works in three separation modes - normal phase, reversed phase and HILIC - giving multiple retention mechanisms. The surface-bonded cyano group interacts strongly with polar compounds through dipole-dipole interactions, while the propyl chain adds hydrophobic interaction. This combination gives unique selectivity that broadens the range of chromatographic applications.

The column elutes hydrophobic molecules quickly, has distinctive selectivity for polar compounds, and gives good peak shape for strongly basic compounds, including ammonium salts. Its selectivity differs from common C18, C8, C4 and phenyl reversed-phase columns, and it can be considered when C18 or C8 columns do not effectively elute extremely hydrophobic compounds.

The page shows azocarbonamide determination on the CN column (HCN536) and a sugar separation on the CommaSil® AMIDE-H column (HAMH434), which is listed in the same ordering table.
