Overview

Product overview

Decarboxylase Medium Base is used to identify bacterial decarboxylase activity and in dual hydrolase tests. It is a four-component base of peptone, yeast extract, glucose and the pH indicator bromocresol purple, to which the required amino acid is added.

The powder is suspended at 9.0 g per litre of purified water, the amino acid is added to a final concentration of 5% and mixed, and the pH is adjusted to 6.8 after sterilisation. The medium is dispensed into small test tubes and autoclaved at 116 °C for 10 minutes.
