Overview

Product overview

E. coli Chromogenic Agar is intended for the detection and enumeration of beta-glucuronidase-positive Escherichia coli in food, water and environmental samples. E. coli colonies turn blue, while other bacterial groups stay colorless or are inhibited, which makes plate counting straightforward.

The dehydrated medium is prepared at 37.3 g per litre of purified water, boiled to dissolve, cooled to 45-50 °C and poured into Petri dishes. Reference photographs show E. coli ATCC 25922 alongside Citrobacter freundii ATCC 43864 and Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212.

Features

Key features

  • 01

    Blue E. coli colonies

The chromogenic mix colours beta-glucuronidase-positive E. coli blue so they stand out from other flora.

  • 02

    Suppression of background flora

Other bacterial groups appear colorless or are inhibited on the plate.

  • 03

    Food, water and environmental samples

The published application covers detection and enumeration across these sample types.

  • 04

    Simple plate preparation

37.3 g per litre, boiled to dissolve and poured at 45-50 °C.
