Fluid Thioglycollate Medium (FTM)
Request a quoteOverview
Fluid Thioglycollate Medium (FTM) supports the cultivation of aerobic, microaerophilic and anaerobic bacteria. It is also used for sterility testing of pharmaceutical and biological products, and (for GF1076F/KL1076F) for the anaerobic cultivation of Clostridium perfringens in food. The formulation uses casein digest, yeast extract, glucose, L-cystine, sodium thioglycollate and a low agar level (0.75 g/L), and resazurin, at a final pH of 7.1±0.2.
Prepare 29.3 g per litre and autoclave at 121 °C for 15 minutes. If the pink zone exceeds one-third of the medium height (GF1076F/KL1076F), heat it in a water bath until colorless; if more than 30% is pink (GF601F), reheat once at 100 °C. If the whole tube is pink, do not use. GF601F is stored at 2-25 °C; all codes have a 3-year sealed shelf life.
