Request a quoteOverview
Mannitol Salt Agar is used for the selective and differential isolation of Staphylococcus aureus. The medium combines casein or gelatin digest, a peptic digest of animal tissue and beef extract with 10 g/L D-mannitol, 75 g/L sodium chloride and phenol red as the indicator, set with 15 g/L agar.
Suspend 111.0 g in 1 L of water, boil with frequent agitation until dissolved and autoclave at 121 °C for 15 minutes. For the GF1047F listing the medium is cooled to about 50 °C and poured into plates. The final pH is 7.4 ± 0.2.
Three catalogue codes are covered: GF1047F (powder, 5-year sealed shelf life), GF622F (powder, purified-water listing, 3 years) and KL1047F (granulated, 3 years). GF622F names pancreatic digest of gelatin where the other two name casein digest. The product is not for clinical use.
