Product overview
Modified Giolitti and Cantoni Broth Base is used for enumeration by the MPN method and for the selective enrichment of Staphylococcus aureus. The source cites ISO 6888. The formula contains enzymatic casein digest, meat extract, yeast extract, lithium chloride, 20.0 g/L mannitol, glycine, sodium pyruvate and Tween 80.
For single-strength broth, suspend 55.2 g in 1 L of purified water; for double-strength broth, suspend 110.4 g in 1 L. Boil with frequent agitation until dissolved, then distribute 9 mL portions into tubes (single strength) or 10 mL portions (double strength) and autoclave at 121 °C for 15 minutes. Cool to 45-50 °C and aseptically add 0.1 mL (single strength) or 0.2 mL (double strength) of 1% potassium tellurite solution per tube. The final pH is 6.9 ± 0.2.
Sealed shelf life is 3 years. Not for clinical use.
