Request a quoteOverview
Modified Semisolid Rappaport Vassiliadis Medium (MSRV) is used for the detection of motile Salmonella species from food and environmental samples. Its low agar content (2.7 g/L) gives a semi-solid medium, and the formula combines enzymatic tissue digest and acid casein hydrolysate with 10.9 g/L anhydrous magnesium chloride, 0.04 g/L malachite green oxalate and 0.01 g/L novobiocin sodium salt. The source lists ISO 6579 and ISO 11133 as standards.
Suspend 31.6 g in 1 L of purified water, heat with frequent agitation and boil until dissolved, avoiding overheating. The medium must not be autoclaved. Cool to about 50 °C, mix well and pour into sterile Petri dishes. The final pH is 5.1-5.4.
This catalogue code (GF1310F) already contains novobiocin; the related base (GF1311F) is supplied without it and takes a supplement. Sealed shelf life is 3 years. Not for clinical use.
