Product overview
Salmonella-Shigella (SS) Agar is a selective medium for the isolation of Salmonella and Shigella. The formulation combines beef extract, proteose peptone, bile salts No.3, lactose, sodium citrate, sodium thiosulfate, ferric citrate, neutral red and brilliant green in an agar base (final pH 7.0±0.2).
Suspend 58.5 g in 1 L of purified water and boil with frequent agitation to dissolve; autoclaving is not needed. The prepared medium should be used on the same day, or kept in a refrigerator and used within 18 hours. It is supplied as dehydrated powder (GF1131F) and granulated (KL1131F), each with a 3-year sealed shelf life.
