Request a quoteOverview
Selenite Cystine Broth is a selective enrichment medium for isolating Salmonella spp. Its formula combines peptone and lactose with 4 g/L sodium selenite, a phosphate buffer and a trace of L-cystine.
To prepare it, suspend 23.0 g in 1 L of distilled or deionized water, then heat with frequent agitation and boil until the powder dissolves. The medium must not be autoclaved; dispense it into conical flasks and use it right after it cools to room temperature. The final pH is 7.0 ± 0.2.
Unused sealed product should be stored at 2-8 °C, dry and protected from light. The source advises wearing a mask when weighing to avoid dust irritation, and states the product is not for clinical use.
