Overview

Product overview

SOC Broth is used for cultivating E. coli and for preparing and transforming competent cells to improve transformation efficiency, with references to Molecular Cloning: A Laboratory Manual and Hanahan (1983). It is described as ideal for recovering electrocompetent or chemically competent cells after transformation.

Tryptone and yeast extract provide carbon, nitrogen, vitamins and growth factors; Mg²⁺ improves membrane permeability and stability; K⁺ is a cofactor for many enzymes; and glucose is a readily available energy source that promotes membrane repair and faster recovery of transformed cells. Suspend 31.4 g in 1 L of purified water and autoclave at 116 °C for 30 minutes.
