Tetrathionate Broth Base
Request a quoteOverview
Tetrathionate Broth Base is the basal medium for selective enrichment of Salmonella. It contains peptone, beef extract, sodium chloride, calcium carbonate, sodium thiosulfate and ox bile salts, and is completed at the time of use with separately supplied reagents.
Suspend 93.6 g in 1 L of distilled or deionized water, heat with frequent agitation and boil to dissolve, without autoclaving. After cooling to 30 °C, add two bottles of sodium tetrathionate brilliant green enrichment solution (one brilliant green and one iodine solution) per 100 mL of base, or two bottles of neomycin to obtain MKTTn broth. Medium containing brilliant green and iodine should be used on the same day and must not be heated again.
The final pH is 7.6 ± 0.2. The source lists powder (GF1029F) and granulated (KL1029F) versions with identical composition.
