Overview

Product overview

Triple Sugar Iron (TSI) Agar is used for the preliminary identification of Enterobacteriaceae based on their fermentation of carbohydrates and hydrogen sulfide production. The medium contains lactose, sucrose and dextrose as the three sugars, with iron salt, sodium thiosulfate and phenol red as the indicator system.

The powder is prepared at 63.4 g per litre of purified water, boiled to dissolve and dispensed into test tubes, then autoclaved at 115 °C for 15 minutes and cooled in a slanted position to give slants with deep butts. Final pH is 7.3±0.1.
