Overview

Product overview

Urea Agar Base (Christensen) is used to test for urease production, and the product page cites ISO 6579. The base contains a small amount of enzymatic digest, glucose, sodium chloride, potassium phosphate and phenol red as pH indicator.

Suspend 24.0 g in 950 mL of purified water, boil and autoclave at 121 °C for 15 minutes. After cooling to 50-55 °C, 5 mL of sterile 40% urea solution (Cat. TJ080F) is added to each 95 mL of base, mixed, dispensed into sterile tubes and cooled in a slanted position to form deep butts.
