Request a quoteOverview
Vibrio Chromogenic Agar is used to isolate and identify the pathogenic species Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Vibrio vulnificus and Vibrio cholerae. On the plate, V. parahaemolyticus forms purple-red colonies, V. cholerae green to bluish-green colonies, and V. alginolyticus remains colorless.
The powder is suspended at 74.7 g per litre of purified water and heated with frequent agitation to boiling; it must not be overheated or autoclaved. The medium is alkaline (final pH 9.0±0.2) and contains a high salt load (51.4 g/L). Reference strains photographed include V. parahaemolyticus ATCC 17802, V. cholerae CICC 23794, V. alginolyticus ATCC 33787 and E. coli ATCC 25922.
