Overview

Product overview

Unity is Oxford Instruments NanoAnalysis’s Backscattered Electron and X-ray (BEX) detector: BSE and EDS sensors in one body, parked under the pole piece so unpolished surfaces do not shadow. It is specified as the first detector to treat BEX as a live imaging technique — colour elemental contrast while you drive the SEM — with sub-10 nm X-ray imaging and at least 10× the X-ray intensity of a conventional SDD take-off. Unity pairs with Ultim Max Infinity silicon-drift detectors and AZtecLive / AZtec Suite 6.3 (AZtecHKL for EBSD, AZtecCrystal, AZtecFeature particle analysis). IOP Business Innovation of the Year recognised the combination of backscatter and X-ray at a scale and pace that used to be two overnight maps.

Al-Shaker specifies Unity versus Ultim Max-only EDS, whether EBSD (AZtecHKL) belongs on the same microscope, and the SEM the detectors actually fit — then installs, calibrates, and supports the analytical package. Individual SDD sensor sizes, EBSD cameras, and software modules are configured to the application.

This line assumes a scanning electron microscope. The detectors are fitted to the SEM you already own.

Features

Key features

  • 01

    BEX, not a second map

Electrons and X-rays in one package so chemistry is the image you steer, not a scan you start at 17:00.

  • 02

    Under the pole piece

No shadowing on rough or holed samples the conventional take-off angle used to miss.

  • 03

    AZtecLive on the same desk

Ultim Max Infinity and AZtec 6.3 — quantify, EBSD, and particles without exporting a second software island.
